This colloquium explored the contribution of women, hitherto unrecognized, to the initial development of American photography at the turn of the century in conjunction with the exhibition “Ambassadors of Progress: Women Photographers in Paris, 1900-1901”, a collaborative effort between the Musée d'Art Américain Giverny, the Library of Congress, Washington D.C. and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
